Organic New Caledonian sandalwood essential oil has a woody-fresh, warm, and balsamic scent. It has a balancing and highly regenerative effect on the skin. Its exceptional and intense fragrance fosters inspiration and stimulates the imagination. This precious oil is distilled from the aromatic heartwood, which only begins to release its fragrance after 30 years. Sandalwood lends an aphrodisiac note to sensual massage oil blends. Often, only a touch of the essential oil is needed for a typical sandalwood aroma. Using the oil sparingly is sensible from both an ecological and cost perspective. We source the oil from an organic plantation in New Caledonia, an island group near Australia and New Zealand.

The use of New Caledonian sandalwood oil has only been known since the turn of the millennium. Due to the scarcity and threat to the survival of Indian sandalwood trees, New Caledonian sandalwood oil has increasingly been used as a substitute for Indian oil. The sandalwood variety Santalum austrocaledonicum Vieillar thrives on the islands of Ouvea, Maré, Lifou, and the Île des Pins. Harvesting is limited, and there are sandalwood plantations where three new trees are planted for every one felled.

Due to its comparable composition, New Caledonian sandalwood can be used as a more affordable alternative to Indian sandalwood. Its scent is somewhat fresher and less warm than that of Indian sandalwood, but it still has the characteristic balsamic aroma of sandalwood.
